About TUICS and how to contact us

TUICS is the Islamic cultural society at Tokyo University that manages the cultural needs of muslims.

TUICS was established in 1993 in the University of Tokyo and is an official cultural society in the University. It maintains a website (www.tuics.com) and Prof. Eiji Nagasawa from the Institute of Oriental Culture is its current supervisor.

TUICS accepts any and all students (male or female) professing the faith of Islam, and pursuing their studies at the University of Tokyo or undertaking training, research, or educational program. Membership is free and member can join TUICS mailing list.

One of the objectives of TUICS is to facilitate new comers (Muslims students) in such a way that they can intermingle with the Japanese culture without much difficulty. That is one of the reasons that in the last 15 years, the population of Muslim students in the University of Tokyo is increasing and with great harmony. TUICS members regularly introduce Islamic culture to fellow Japanese students with cultural events and acquire knowledge of Japanese culture though mutual interaction in such events.
